Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Shallow dish or plate for breading
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Tongs or slotted spoon
  • Small saucepan (for the hot honey sauce)
  • Paper towels (for draining)
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • For the Fried Shrimp:
  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined (tail on or off)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for extra heat
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • For the Hot Honey Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce such as sriracha or your favorite hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional for extra heat
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  • Prepare the Shrimp:
  • In a shallow dish, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  • In a separate shallow dish, beat the eggs.
  • In another shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  • Coat the Shrimp:
  • Dip each shrimp into the flour mixture, coating it evenly.
  • Then dip it into the beaten eggs, followed by the panko breadcrumbs, pressing lightly to ensure the breadcrumbs stick.
  • Repeat with all the shrimp.
  • Fry the Shrimp:
  • Heat about 1-2 inches of vegetable oil in a large frying pan or deep fryer over medium-high heat (about 350°F).
  • Fry the shrimp in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the shrimp from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  • Make the Hot Honey Sauce:
  • In a small saucepan, combine the honey, hot sauce, red pepper flakes (if using), and butter.
  • Heat over low to medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the butter melts and the sauce is smooth and well combined.
  • Toss the Shrimp:
  • Place the fried shrimp in a large bowl.
  • Pour the hot honey sauce over the shrimp and toss gently to coat all the shrimp evenly in the sauce.
  • Serve:
  • Serve the Hot Honey Fried Shrimp immediately, garnished with extra red pepper flakes or a drizzle of hot honey sauce on top.
  • Pair with your favorite dipping sauce, like ranch or a tangy aioli, for added flavor.
