Caprese Salad with Fresh Mozzarella
Caprese salad is a classic Italian dish that’s simple, fresh, and incredibly delicious. This version with fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and aromatic basil leaves is perfect as an appetizer or a light meal. The combination of these ingredients, drizzled with balsamic reduction and olive oil, highlights the flavors of each component beautifully.
- 4 ripe tomatoes sliced
- 1 lb fresh mozzarella sliced
- 1 bunch of fresh basil leaves
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Prepare the Balsamic Reduction:
In a small saucepan, bring the balsamic vinegar to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the vinegar has reduced by half and has a syrupy consistency, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Assemble the Salad:
On a serving platter, arrange the tomato slices, mozzarella slices, and basil leaves in an alternating pattern.
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil.
Drizzle the balsamic reduction over the salad.
