Caprese Salad with Fresh Mozzarella

Caprese salad is a classic Italian dish that’s simple, fresh, and incredibly delicious. This version with fresh mozzarella, ripe tomatoes, and aromatic basil leaves is perfect as an appetizer or a light meal. The combination of these ingredients, drizzled with balsamic reduction and olive oil, highlights the flavors of each component beautifully.

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Serving platter
  • Small saucepan (for balsamic reduction)

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe tomatoes sliced
  • 1 lb fresh mozzarella sliced
  • 1 bunch of fresh basil leaves
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Prepare the Balsamic Reduction:
  • In a small saucepan, bring the balsamic vinegar to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the vinegar has reduced by half and has a syrupy consistency, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.
  • Assemble the Salad:
  • On a serving platter, arrange the tomato slices, mozzarella slices, and basil leaves in an alternating pattern.
  • Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil over the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil.
  • Drizzle the balsamic reduction over the salad.
  • Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
