Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Baking sheet
  • Rolling pin (optional)
  • Pastry brush (optional)
  • Parchment paper (optional for easy cleanup)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water about 110°F
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese plus extra for sprinkling
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • Fresh parsley optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast
  • In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy and bubbly.
  • Prepare the Dough
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to the flour mixture along with the olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time. If it’s too dry, add a little more water.
  • Let the Dough Rise
  • Lightly oil the mixing bowl, place the dough inside, and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Shape the Breadsticks
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it into a rectangle (about 12x8 inches).
  • Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into strips (about 1 inch wide) to form the breadsticks.
  • Bake the Breadsticks
  • Arrange the breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Make the Garlic Butter
  • While the breadsticks are baking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in the Parmesan cheese and dried oregano.
  • Finish the Breadsticks
  • When the breadsticks are done baking, remove them from the oven and immediately brush them with the garlic Parmesan butter. Sprinkle a little extra Parmesan cheese on top, if desired.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley for an extra touch of color and flavor.
  • Serve and Enjoy
  • Let the breadsticks cool slightly before serving. These Parmesan Garlic Breadsticks are best served warm, with extra garlic butter on the side for dipping.
